Fundraiser for local cancer patient a success, but there’s more to be done

Payton Slaymaker. Used with permission.

The community of Warsaw came together to help one of their own over the weekend.

A fundraising event was held at the Community Worship Center on Saturday for 8 year-old Payton Slaymaker of Claypool. She’s being treated for a malignant brain tumor at the Children’s Hospital of Cincinnati.

More than 1,000 people came out for the silent auction, to buy burgers, and to show their support.

Family members say more than $24,000 was raised at the event. A Give In Kind page has been set up to help with the ongoing expenses of her treatment.
