Dangerous conditions this week at Lake Michigan beaches

It’s not a good time to go for a swim in Lake Michigan right now, and it has nothing to do with the cooler conditions.

Tyler Sebree at ABC 57 says there are dangerous, life threatening conditions all around the lake. Along LaPorte, Berrien, and Van Buren County beaches, a Beach Hazards Statement is in effect. In fact it reaches all the way north to Mackinac Island, along the entire west coast of the lake.

Beach goers will see large waves, dangerous currents, strong winds, and the potential for coastal erosion and minor flooding. The worst conditions will be north of New Buffalo in Berrien County, and waves on Wednesday could be 5 to 8 feet at Silver Beach, washing over the piers.

Conditions are expected to improve by Saturday or Sunday.
