Troopers with the Indiana State Police Bremen Post will be partnering with local law enforcement by conducting a sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Kosciusko County on the night of Friday, August 30, 2019 from 10:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m.

The checkpoint, as well as several others that have taken place or will take place this weekend, is part of the Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over campaign that has been in effect since Aug. 5, and concludes on Sep. 2. Drivers that encounter the checkpoint are asked to have their driver’s licenses and registrations available for troopers.

The purpose of sobriety checkpoints is to remove drivers that are under the influence of drugs or alcohol and pose a risk to others on the roadways. Impaired drivers cause billions of dollars in property damage, personal injury, and death annually.

Please observe the following tips:

  • Use a designated driver
  • Don’t get behind the wheel if you have been drinking. Call a taxi, friend, or family member that has not been drinking.
  • If you are hosting a party, offer non-alcoholic drinks as an option
  • Don’t let friends drive drunk. Offer to get them a ride or spend the night.

Local law enforcement agencies throughout Michiana are also planning extra police patrols to watch for suspected intoxicated drivers.

Anybody who sees a possibly impaired driver, is encouraged to call 911 and be prepared to give a location, direction of travel, and vehicle description.

How about a check at the Michigan & Indiana state line. Maybe not. What Michigan sells is not intoxication. and is legal in Michigan. Keep it there.
