K9 Nellie Does it Again; Gets Elderly Man Home Safe

Some good news from Cass County this morning as it appears K9 Nellie, the Cass County Sheriff Bloodhound helped track down another missing elderly person this week.

The Department says they responded to the 26-thousand block of M-60 on Thursday where a 70 year old man had walked away from his home, and his caretaker couldn’t find him. Nellie was able to track him to a swamp by his home, and returned him about 5 hours after he first went missing.

The man was treated and sent home.

Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that on 9/12/19 at 8:45pm his Deputies responded to the 26000 block of M60, in Jefferson Twp Cass County, for a missing 70 year old male.  Michael Cox of Cassopolis had walked away from his home and had not returned. His caretaker was concerned due to his medical issues and approaching storms.  Mr. Cox had been missing since 6 pm and his friends and Sheriff’s Deputies were unsuccessful in the search for him in the wooded area around the home.  Deputy Graves and K-9 Nellie were called in to assist in the search.  At 10:50 pm approximately 5 hrs after Mr. Cox went missing, Deputy Graves and K-9 Nellie located him.  Cox was located in a swamp behind his residence.  Mr. Cox was medically cleared by Life Care Ambulance personnel and was returned home.
