UPDATE: New details released on South Bend shooting that killed gas station clerk

A South Bend gas station clerk died after being shot during an apparent armed robbery attempt at a Phillips 66 gas station in South Bend.

South Bend Police were called to the gas station in the 3400 block of Lincoln Way West, near Ryer St., just before 11 p.m. after receiving 911 hangup call.

Officers arrived to find the clerk in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was later identified as Baljeet Singh, 24 of South Bend.

Singh was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow, Sept. 20, at 9 a.m. in Fort Wayne.

Police K9s were brought in to help search for the suspect.

The St. Joseph Metro Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.
