One killed in fatal crash on I-94 Friday morning

A semi driver has died following a crash in Berrien County Friday morning.

Police received several 911 calls of a semi crash along westbound I-94 in New Buffalo Township just before 9 a.m.

When they arrived to the scene, they found the semi-truck engulfed in flames. Police were unable to get to the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

After speaking with witnesses, police report the semi struck a guardrail before running off the roadway and striking a tree. The vehicle then burst into flames.

At this time, it’s unknown if the driver suffered a medical emergency that may have caused them to run off the roadway.

The driver’s identity, cause and manner of death will be released at a later time.
