Michigan City Mayor to hold press conference about the future of the city’s top cop position

(Tom Franklin/95.3 MNC)

An official statement is expected Tuesday in the wake of resignations at the top of Michigan City’s Police Department.

Chief Mark Swistek and two assistant chiefs stepped down last week after the arrest of the mayor’s step son.

Tuesday afternoon Mayor Ron Meer will hold a press conference where he is likely to announce Swistek’s replacement.

The outgoing Chief said he was asked to end the department’s relationship with the LaPorte County Drug Task Force after the arrest.

Meer is an embaressment. His step son was set up? Come on…the idiot had drugs hidden in his mouth and a illegal firearm. He was a convicted felon before this happened. I hardly think anyone had to set this guy up. And for him to call out our officers as he did is disgusting. I sure hope my fellow residents vote this loser out.

Wow, there could not be a more poignant action that highlights all that is wrong with political corruption everywhere. Power abused for personal gain. Gee Mr. Mayor, I’m so sorry we arrested your criminal offspring…here let me resign.
