While Benton Harbor Area Schools continues to work with the state of Michigan they have received some good news about their finances; they have managed to take a pretty big chunk out of their debt.
A district Audit presented on Tuesday shows that the district managed to reduce its debt by around $680,000. The district still has $3.7 million in debt to handle, but the schools CFO says despite that their fund balance is at its highest point in the last 12 years.
The district is still working with state officials to improve their financial situation. Massive debt and educational struggles almost led to the school closing this past summer.
