Burns Harbor to become more efficient and environmentally friendly

Nearly $20 million worth of improvements are underway at the Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor.

The $19.7 million project will create two new rail yards, expand the capacity to handle additional cargo, and simultaneously reduce the port’s environmental impact.

Work on the first of the rail yards is already underway. The port will also offer improved efficiency thanks to an ability to have rail car switching within the port.

The funding was split between state and federal funds.
