A big celebration is set for downtown South Bend tonight as the ribbon will be cut on the 18-million dollar renovation of Howard Park. There are many new features including an ice trail, playground, community center, Riverwalk trail, fountains, event lawn and memorials.

“We do expect the masses to be here,” said Aaron Perri with South Bend Venues Parks and Arts in an interview with ABC 57 News, “Here is your black Friday plan–maybe sleep in a little bit, do your black Friday shopping, eat your left overs, take a nap, and then come join us out here at Howard Park.”

Tonight’s grand re-opening also features special guest Olympic skater Brian Boitano, food truck trucks, fireworks and live music. Festivities will begin around 4:30. The ribbon will be cut at 6. The event is free for all.
