Former Notre Dame Running Back Dies at 27

News broke late Monday that George Atkinson III had died at the age of 27. His death was initially reported by The Athletic. George and his twin brother Josh both played football Notre Dame as part of the 2011 draft class. Josh Atkinson died just over a year ago, and according to the source George had been battling depression after his death.

Atkinson III had 10 rushing touchdowns with Notre Dame, and was also part of the track and field team. Out of college he signed with the Oakland Raiders, the same team his father had won a Super Bowl with. He made only one regular season appearance in 2016 as a member of the Cleveland Browns.

No details about his death have been released.
