Former SVU detective suing St. Joseph County for wrongful termination

A former detective is suing the St. Joseph County Special Victims Unit for alleged wrongful termination.

The woman says things turned south when she became pregnant. According to the suit, she was placed on light duty, per doctors’ orders, but she alleged her commander required her to be available to work during non-work house and made comments that she wouldn’t be able to cope with Special Victims cases once she gave birth, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners with ABC 57.

The suit says she was fired from the SVU unit while on leave after having her baby and that she returned to work as a South Bend Police Officer.

A county attorney told ABC 57 the lawsuit is without merit and there was no discrimination.
