Power cut to thousands after overnight crash in Elkhart County

Electricity was cut to about 2,000 Indiana Michigan Power customers in Elkhart County after a crash.

The collision happened around 1:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 25, when a driver struck a utility pole in the area of County Road 4 and County Road 9.

That resulted in damage to a transformer, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

The number of people whose power was cut was down to around 700 within a couple of hours of utility crews arriving on scene.

I&M estimated power would be restored to everybody by 11:30 a.m. Christmas morning.
