Portage Meat & Market closing Jan. 25

The corner of Elwood and Portage Avenues in South Bend is once again losing its market.

The Martin’s store at that intersection scaled down and became Portage Meat & Market two years ago. Now that store will be closing its doors on January 25.

The South Bend Tribune reports that the closure was based on the company’s ongoing evaluation process of its stores, associates, and communities. The new market concept replaced the longest-standing traditional Martin’s location in 2017.

The company says they are looking for employment opportunities for the workers who will be impacted by the closure.
