The South Bend Community Schools are planning some big changes to their bus system…

At Monday night’s Board meeting, new bus routes were unveiled that would involve fewer buses, running less hours and traveling fewer miles.

WSBT reports that buses will also be equipped with ID scanners for students.

The changes will require no additional spending, using funds earmarked for a different project that didn’t come to fruition. New bus routes will begin January 27th with as little inconvenience as possible for South Bend families.

Transportation Director Juan Legus resigned in September after a number of issues and complaints about the service.
