Mother and child killed in Michigan house fire

A house fire in St. Joseph County, Michigan has claimed the life of a mother and a child.

Officials are still investigating the fire but say three other children were able to escape through a window. They were treated for minor injuries at a Three Rivers Hospital.

The fire happened at a home in the 12800 block of Harder Road in Fabius Township.

The living room and garage of the house were engulfed in flames and crews were unable to search the home for the victims.

They’ve been identified as 38-year-old Michelle Bixler and 16 year-old Cheyenne Ruth.
