The Brandywine Schools have joined the list looking to move their first day of school

It’s a law in Michigan that school begins after Labor Day. But all of the school districts in Berrien County are now seeking to move that date to earlier in the year under a new proposal.

The state can decide to grant an Early-Start Waiver to schools as a response to Labor Day happening later in the next few years. This year the holiday falls on September 7th.

A survey of parents in Berrien County shows a little more than half are in favor of starting school before Labor Day.
