Elkhart announces warming centers heading into a frosty weekend

Commuters braves the wind and snow in frigid weather, Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, in Cincinnati. The extreme cold and record-breaking temperatures are crawling into a swath of states spanning from North Dakota to Missouri and into Ohio after a powerful snowstorm pounded the region earlier this week. With temperatures dropping as we head into the weekend, the City of Elkhart has announced that it has opened warming centers for those in need for tonight and tomorrow morning.

Mayor Rod Roberson says warming centers are open at Guidance Ministries on 2nd Street, Faith Mission on Benham, and the Downtown Elkhart Public Library on South 2nd Street.

Guidance Ministry says they will also be allowing food and personal hygiene services as well as shelter. Some locations will be open more frequently throughout the season and you can learn more at their locations.

Yes, a lot of tax money is wasted. However, you can certainly look elsewhere to reduce spending. Children, women and men’s lives (our neighbors) are being saved by keeping them out of the elements or when they don’t even have enough money to heat the home they live in.
Besides, much of this relief mentioned here is provided by non-profits = donation supported.
