Some west side homeowners in South Bend can apply for home repair grants

South Bend has opened applications for home repair grants.

On Tuesday the city’s UEA Pilot Home Repair Program said they would be accepting applications for a grant on behalf of homeowners seeking to make certain repairs.

Homeowners can receive up to 20 thousand dollars for home repairs such as roof replacements, electrical repairs, and more. It’s part of a broader South Bend Home Repair initiative, and the pilot program is targeted towards areas on the west side of the city between Western and Portage Avenues.

Applications will be accepted through March 31.

Two questions:
1. Why restricted to west-side residents???????????
2. Where is the money coming from????????????? It has better NOT be taxpayer money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
