UWSM asking for volunteers, donations to help combat coronavirus

The United Way of Southwest Michigan (UWSM) is asking for aid in fighting the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, including both volunteers and donations.

The UWSM is currently looking for volunteers willing and able to help with tasks such as food distribution, cleaning, laundry and more. At this time, volunteers are being put “on call”, meaning they’ll be contacted if a specific need arises. If interested, you can sign-up by clicking here.

Donations are also needed, and those received through the UWSM will benefit organizations and facilities that serve vulnerable and at-risk populations throughout the area.

Needed items include:

  • Clothing
  • New, clean socks and underwear
  • Scrubs, new or gently used
  • New PPE/medical supplies
  • Isolation masks
  • Handmade masks
  • Masks with face shield/visor
  • Face shields
  • Googles/safety glasses
  • Gloves
  • Thermometers
  • Disposable medical gowns
  • Ponchos
  • New cleaning supplies
  • Bleach wipes
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Food items
  • Shelf stable snacks
  • Shelf stable microwavable meals
  • New hygiene items (travel size/disposable)
  • Soap
  • Shampoo
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Feminine care products
  • Shaving cream
  • Razors

Donations can be dropped off starting Monday, April 13 at the United Way of Southwest Michigan office (2015 Lakeview Avenue in St. Joseph, Michigan) on Mondays from 3-5 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. – Noon.
