Suspect in Phillips 66 shooting death captured after pursuit, crash

The suspect in a murder that happened on March 14 at the Phillips 66 gas station in downtown South Bend has been arrested.

U.S. Marshals captured Anthony Malone, 31, on Monday, April 13, after a brief chase that began in LaPorte County near Hudson Lake. The pursuit ended when Malone crashed his vehicle in St. Joseph County near Lincolnway and William Street in South Bend.

An Indiana State Trooper pursuing him also crashed into Malone’s vehicle.

The suspect and a female passenger were taken to a hospital, and Malone was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail.

Malone faces a murder charge with a firearm enhancement in the death of De’Ashay Thompson, 24. He’s due to be arraigned on Tuesday.
