If you have witnessed or experienced sexual harassment by a landlord, property manager, maintenance worker or anyone in control over housing, you’re being asked to report that conduct to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The pandemic has affected many things, including the ability of many people to pay rent on time. In response, the DOJ has received reports of housing providers attempting to exploit the crisis by sexually harassing tenants.
The DOJ, through the Civil Rights Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Offices, enforces the Fair Housing Act, which prohibits sexual harassment, among many other things, in housing situations.
The Department encourages anyone who has experienced sexual harassment in housing, or knows someone who has, to contact the Civil Rights Divison by calling (844) 380-6178 or by emailing fairhousing@usdoj.gov.
Individuals can also file a complaint with the Department of Housing and Urban Development through their website, or by calling (800) 669-9777.
