Pair arrested after running from and shooting at police

The incident happened last week when police in Kendallville attempted to pull the car over but lost them in a pursuit. Shortly thereafter they were seen again, chased again, and made their way into Elkhart County.

Eventually the suspects got out of the car near New Paris and ran into the woods on foot; firing back on police officers as they fled. Police did manage to arrest the pair, and nobody was injured during the incident.

Kyla and Nicholas are now both behind bars facing resisting law enforcement and criminal recklessness charges. Nicholas Slabach admitted to firing 4 shots at police with a .22 revolver that he abandoned in the woods.

There is definitely more to this story. My son witnessed the chase and I listened to it on the police scanner.
