Overnight thunderstorms result in power outages for thousands

More than 4,600 Midwest Energy customers in southwestern Michigan were left without power after thunderstorms pelted the area during the overnight hours of Friday, May 15.

According to Midwest Energy, Four substations went down and 4,600 people leaving without electric power around Cass, Vandalia, Union, Edwardsburg, and Mottville. Internet customers went down around  Cass, Vandalia, Jones and Mottville.

Several dozen Indiana Michigan Power customers were also left without electricity due to the storms, including around 80 customers in the Hudson Lake area and a handful of customers in the Springville area.
