Portage woman arrested after allegedly throwing joint at officer

A 23-year-old Portage woman was cited for littering on Saturday.

Police say they stopped Evelyn Vann’s car shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday after watching it swerve all over the road, nearly striking another vehicle and a concrete pillar.

When the officer came close to her car, he smelled marijuana. Vann reportedly denied having marijuana, despite having a rolled joint in her hand. Eventually Vann acknowledged it was marijuana and threw it out the window where the officer was standing.

Vann now faces charges of driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and possessing drugs.
