Man, 19, charged with murder, robbery, in connection with teen accomplice’s death

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Makyi Toliver, 19, in connection with a St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit  investigation into a shooting that occurred on Sep. 6, 2019, and resulted in the death of Curtis Frazier Jr, 16.

South Bend Police were called to a shooting outside a home in the 1700 block of Calvert Street. Frazier Jr. was found, unconscious, and was taken to the hospital where he died.

Toliver, who was also shot, told police they were being robbed. However, the investigation revealed Toliver and Frazier allegedly beat a man and tried to rob him of his gun. The man told police he shot Toliver and Frazier while fearing for his life.

Toliver is charged with Felony Murder and Attempted Robbery.

Toliver was arrested on June 1o and booked into the St. Joseph County Jail, where he remains in custody without bond.

His initial hearing is scheduled for July 20.
