Man, 19, killed after crash, shooting in Marine Street in South Bend

A 19-year-old man was killed in an apparent shooting in South Bend.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, July 3, in the 1600 block of Marine Street, near Miami and Calvert.

Police arrived at the scene to find a car crashed near a tree.  One person inside the car, identified as Jeremiah Parker, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is conducting the investigation.  Anybody with information Is asked to contact Michiana Crime Stoppers at (574) 288-STOP.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office released the following information:

At approximately 1:25 a.m. this morning, July 3, 2020, the South Bend Police
Department received a report of gunshots fired and a vehicle crash in the 1600
block of S. Marine St.

Officers were dispatched to the area and located one male adult victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was inside of a vehicle and was removed by first responders who assessed him for life saving measures. It was determined that the victim was deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.

Per protocol, the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit was activated and is
currently handling the investigation.

Several witnesses have been interviewed. At this time, no arrests have been made.

The victim has been positively identified as Jeremiah Parker, 19 years old, and the family
has been notified.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday morning, July 6th, in Fort Wayne. Once the examination is completed, results of the autopsy will be shared with the media.

This is an active and on-going investigation. If anyone has information, they are
