Country music legend Charlie Daniels has died

Country music and southern rock legend Charlie Daniels has passed away at the age of 83, according to a statement from his publicist.

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Grand Ole Opry member died Monday morning at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, Tennessee. Doctors determined the cause of death was a hemorrhagic stroke.

His long string of award-winning hits included “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” “The South’s Gonna Do It Again” and “Simple Man”.

He was a staunch supporter of the military and co-founder in 2014 of The Journey Home Project, which benefits veterans of the Armed Forced.
