A community rally is being planned for this weekend in South Bend…with a special purpose in mind.

A rally at Howard Park is being planned for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help out kids getting ready for school.

Members of the South Bend Common Council are teaming up with Notre Dame Women’s Basketball Coach Niele Ivey, the South Bend Mayor’s office and office of Venues, Parks & Arts, and the school systems of South Bend and Mishawaka.

The Community Rally will provide backpacks, masks and sanitizer to elementary school students, and safety resources for students and parents. Masks are required for everyone over the age of 2, and social distancing precautions will be taken.
