The drowning happened at Lions Park Beach in St. Joseph around 8pm Thursday night.

When rescuers arrived there were four people in the water–the father, his two children ages 12 and 17, and another person on a surfboard. The surf boarder was able to pull the boys out of the water, but the father was not able to stay above the water.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
