After almost two years of planning and design work, the City of Benton Harbor is about to undertake one of the largest infrastructure improvement projects the community has seen in decades.
Work on the more-than $15 million dollars in improvements is slated to begin in September and be completed next year. Improvements include a major reconstruction of Pipestone Street from Britain Avenue to Main Street and work on Wall Street and Highland Avenue from Pipestone to 4th Street.
Besides all new pavement, pedestrians will notice new curbs and gutters, sidewalk and sidewalk ramp, pavement markings, new signage as well as new street lighting, streetscaping and tree planting. Underneath the streets — an all new water main and sewer lines.
