Governor Holcomb to receive letter full of complaints about unemployment benefit hangups

The latest complaints about Indiana’s unemployment system are going straight to the governor.

The group Indiana Unemployment Peer to Peer Information, which says it has seven thousand members, sent a letter to Governor Holcomb, this week, explaining their frustration.

The group says people have waited up to 15 weeks for their unemployment claims to be processed.

The letter points to slow responses, improperly trained workers, bad information, and a lack of accountability among its chief concerns.

Yeah, it’s not like tons of people were laid off due to a pandemic.
Oh wait.

They are 14 weeks behind for me. I have never received unemployment (don’t qualify) or any PUA assistance. I applied for PUA for being quarantined (11 days before symptoms developed), then sick (3 weeks at advisement of board of health) and husband being hospitalized for five days (stayed home to care for him for a week as he couldn’t even stand for 3 minutes) and then work said to stay home an extra week since they had no work for me due to the pandemic. Husband was so ill he was out of work for six weeks. There was no PUA or work money coming in for him either. In this time a vehicle of ours broke down. It was old enough that it wasn’t fixable. It was all so frustrating. All the medical bills have rolled in (anyone receiving oxygen is considered an ICU patient). There’s no savings left for either of us. Have been told a claims officer would call me since June. I continue to call every couple weeks and wait on the line for at least an hour. The information I get is the same…”A claims officer will call you. We are delayed”. I really don’t expect to see any money come through for us. We are both back to work trying to make bills and hoping someday to have a savings. Grateful he is alive. Grateful we can work now.
