Employees at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis will be furloughed for at least three weeks beginning Sep. 21.

Some may be laid off as long as eight weeks, said a memo released to NCAA member schools.

The organization is trying to save money.

The cancellation of the men’s college basketball tournament was a catalyst for the layoffs. The tournament is a large source of revenue for the organization.

The NCAA has also been offering early retirement to some people and senior management have taken pay cuts of 10 to 20 percent.
