Black Lives Matter South Bend issues statement regarding Breonna Taylor ruling

The South Bend chapter of Black Lives Matter issued the following statement after Kentucky’s Attorney General announced there would be no charges filed against the Louisville Police Officers who shot and killed Breonna Taylor and that the only charge filed is against a former officer for shooting into a neighboring home:

Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old Black woman, was fatally shot by Louisville Metro Police Department officers Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove on March 13, 2020. Three plainclothes LMPD officers entered her apartment.

LMPD murdered Breonna while executing a no-knock search warrant. The decision to indict one out of three officers present comes after more than six months after  Breonna Taylor, who was also  an Emergency Worker, was shot dead by police in HER home.

Today, on September 23rd, a state grand jury indicted Brett Hankison on three counts of “wanton endangerment”  for his actions. The two other officers involved in the raid were not indicted; and while Hankison was indicted for his actions during the Taylor raid, he was not indicted for Taylor’s death. This is an insult to the entire Black community, but we realize the system will never deliver justice to our people.

The system continues to prove itself to be one that refuses to mete out any semblance of justice for black people. This is a call to remain in the streets so as to demand change.

We cannot just #SayHerName. We must do the work to honor Breonna Taylor’s life and protect the lives of Black women and Black people who continue to be targeted by law enforcement and the criminal justice systems that places targets on our backs.

Charged language like “murdered” detracts from the point they are trying to make.

Of course, their whole point falls apart if you actually read the police reports that were leaked. She was a former emergency worker, who was now working off the books for a drug enterprise. She was actively involved in her ex-boyfriend’s narcotics dealing, and had rented a car that somehow ended up with a dead body in the trunk. Her name was on at least one of the warrants from that night. When the police came in, her “friend” opened fire on them and the police, understandably, returned fire.

She died because of her choices, not something as meaningless as skin color. Why is it that BLM can’t find a truly INNOCENT hero, since they claim cops mow down innocent blacks all the time? I know why, it’s because their whole narrative is a lie.

She is as wholesome as George Floyd. These people need to find better hero’s. Not hard. Pick any homeless bum and you have a better hero than this woman…BLM stands for Burgal, loot, murder and they just continue to prove it.

How do Black people put up with this crap that is being spued out as if all black people are saying it? September 28, 2020 at 12:55 pm

“The system continues to prove itself to be one that refuses to mete out any semblance of justice for black people. This is a call to remain in the streets so as to demand change”. Interpretation: us black people want to be left alone to commit crimes when and where we feel like it with out police trying to stop us. Also, we want to shot at the police but not be shot at by police. We think this is fair and we will continue be the criminals we are until our demands are met! And then after that too of coarse…How do Black people put up with this crap that is being spued out as if all black people are saying it?
