Holcomb: Another “stay at home” order could be considered

Governor Eric Holcomb said he would consider another stay at home order if the data concerning the coronavirus says it would be prudent. Holcomb also said he believes the pushback on the statewide mask mandate is a natural reaction to being told what to do.

“Until we get to the day where we have a lot of therapeutics and a vaccine that’s effective, we’re gonna have to do the things that responsibly contain this,” Holcomb told WISH-TV host Phil Sanchez, on Sunday “All Indiana Politics”.

Holcomb said he makes decisions based on data and had originally hoped Indiana would be in Stage 5 of the Back on Track plan by July.

Instead, Stage 5 began just two weeks ago.

“Well, maybe it was wishful thinking and we were leaning to do everything we could. But, you don’t control this virus.”

Holcomb’s Democratic opponent in the Nov. 3, election, Dr. Woody Myers, has said he would be willing to shut the state down again. Holcomb said essentially the same.

“If the numbers dictate it, then we would have to. You wouldn’t take anything off the table if the numbers dictate it,” he said.

Responding to a question about the mask mandate, Holcomb said he believes there is fatigue over wearing masks in Indiana, but said it’s also all over the world.

“So, that’s just a natural kind of reaction to, what would I have to do,” he said. “And, we know it’s transmitted through the air and so, how do we reduce those odds?”

Holcomb stressed physical distancing and masks and not gathering in large groups.

  1. Make that order and you will get a stay at home order from The People and it won’t be in public housing. I guess you are not aware of the governors who have had their tyrannical orders slapped down by courts as being unconstitutional. You could be next on that list. I know a lot of good republicans who will either stay home or vote for the libertarian. You need to wake up!! I am seriously considering not making a vote for governor because of your willy-nilly orders. Every time I hear you talk I want to throw up.

    • Its not just ppl who are vunerable. HEALTHY ppl can get the virus and could DIE or be left with long term health issues we all end up paying for Saying mask aren’t needed is a outright wrong and shows you are not informed

  2. Vote for the Libertarian Rainwater. The only one of the three running making any sense for Indiana. This governor is a RINO and has overreached big time. Governor Gomer Holcomb has been acting more like a Democrat and therefore he must go. Maybe the GOP will send us a real Republican next time inside of this Washington insider. Politicians, like diapers, must be changed occasionally and for the same reason.

  3. “Holcomb also said he believes the pushback on the statewide mask mandate is a natural reaction to being told what to do.” You think? Ever heard of Liberty? “Until we get to the day where we have a lot of therapeutics and a vaccine that’s effective, we’re gonna have to do the things that responsibly contain this,” What makes you so sure we’re ever going to get there and that everyone will even take them? Or is it your plan to force that on us also? This guy needs to be taken to court just like Whitmer in Michigan, better yet vote Libertarian!

  4. The problem is, screwing around voting for the Libertarian or just staying home will get you Dr Woody the Democrat.

Then not only will you get this mask idiocy, but a whole plethora of other idiocy to go along with it in the form of the Democrat party platform.

Voting for the lesser of two evils sucks, but it’s still better than being ruled by the greater of two evils!

  5. We’re being ruled right now, wake up. Can’t walk in a single place without a threat for not wearing a mask or the threat of another shutdown if we don’t behave. I know if the Democrat gets in it would be worse, I’ve read his statements. But we have an Republican Governor doing the same thing. Where are our Legislators? Why don’t they have a say? We didn’t elect a King that can do what ever he want’s “based on the science” BS. Sound familiar? Ever heard of Climate Change? People who disagree are “science deniers”. Such crap!

    • I am in favor of a stay at home order if rainwater wins how will it be my choice to stay at home to avoid getting sick and working at my job virtually. My job already said there won’t be a work from home option unless there is a mandatory stay at home order and people around my work area are getting sick. If it was guaranteed by rainwater and truly 100% up to we the people to be able to keep our job but work from home during this pandemic then I would be okay with not having a stay at home order in place. Truthfully I go to work and stay home anyway because people these days are idiots. Too much hatred and criticism and judgmental people around.
