We’re watching several races in Michigan on this Election Day, including the latest challenge to a decades-long serving Congressman from St. Joseph.

Democratic U.S. Senator Gary Peters faces a challenge from Republican John James.

Long serving GOP Congressman Fred Upton is being challenged by Democrat Jon Hoadley for his 6th District seat.

In Michigan’s State Houses, candidates are vying for the 78th, 79th and 59th District seats in Berrien, Cass and St. Joseph County.

Berrien County’s 12th District Commissioner race will be decided between Michael Poorman and Michael Majerek, and Cass County’s 7th District Commissioner’s race features Ron Reeves and Jeremiah Jones.

There are also two state proposals on the ballot in Michigan.

Proposal 20-1 calls for a constitutional amendment to allow money from oil and gas mining on state-owned lands to continue to be collected in state funds for land protection and the creation and maintenance of nature areas, parks, and public recreation facilities. It would also clarify how those state funds would be spent.

Proposal 20-2 on the ballot would create an amendment requiring a search warrant to access a person’s electronic data or e-communications.
