Benton Harbor under Boil Water Advisory

The City of Benton Harbor is under a Boil Water Advisory.

The advisory was issued after an interruption in the water treatment process, which may have caused microbial contamination in the water system.

Until further notice, Benton Harbor residents are instructed not to drink tap water without boiling it first. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using.

Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food.

For those who have a lead service line, or have previously detected lead in home water samples, do not boil your water. Use bottle water instead until the boil advisory is no longer in effect.

City officials estimate the problem will be resolved within two to three days.
