Explosion, fire claims life of a woman, 72, at a Mishawaka apartment

A 72-year-old woman was killed and a second person injured after an explosion and fire at Addison Apartments on Main Street in Mishawaka.

It happened out around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5. The fire marshal is looking into the possibility of oxygen tanks may factor into the blast.

A section of Mishawaka Avenue in South Bend was closed as crews battled a fire. The blaze broke out early on Thursday night, Nov. 5, in the 900 block of Louise Street.

The street was blocked off from Longfellow Avenue to Oakland Street.

There was no reported of any injuries. There was no immediate word about a cause.
