Tuesday afternoon it was announced that Lincoln Elementary and Dickinson Fine Arts Academy will be e-learning from November 16 through November 30, due to a large number of staff members at both schools who are forced to quarantine.

Officials with the South Bend Community School Corporation, however, have decided against a district-wide shutdown.

St. Joseph County Deputy Health Officer Dr. Mark Fox told WSBT that there’s been some discussion with several districts, in light of increased transmission at the high school level. Instead, individual schools might be closed on a case-by-case basis as deemed necessary.

Superintendent Todd Cummings says half the district schools have had 5 or fewer cases of COVID-19.

This week has seen the highest number of positive cases in the county since the start of the pandemic.
