Niles man shot and killed by police in New Mexico

A man from Niles was shot and killed by police in New Mexico.

Rodney Applewhite, 25, was traveling to Arizona to visit his mother for Thanksgiving when police tried to pull him over after allegedly seeing him weave in and out of oncoming trafffic lanes, according to the Niles Daily Star.

Police ended their pursuit due to dangerous conditions and Applewhite was spotted a short time later standing in traffic.

Investigators say he began to fight with police and grabbed an officer’s gun.

An officer fired at least one round.

Applewhite died of his injuries.
