Man, 38, shot and killed while taking off in stolen vehicle in South Bend

One person was killed in a shooting in South Bend.

Reckon Harrell (Photo supplied:St. Joseph County Jail)Police were called around 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29, to Lincolnway West between Johnson and O’Brien Streets where they found a car crashed into a yard and the driver, Anthony Craig Logan, 38, slumped over the wheel, having suffered a gunshot wound.

Logan was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Metro Homicide investigators say the vehicle he was in was stolen as it was warming up in front of a home. They say the suspect shooter, Revlon Harrell, 27, fired several rounds at the car as Logan took off, westbound, on Lincolnway.

Harrell has been arrested on a preliminary charge of voluntary manslaughter.

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit released the following information:

On 12/29/20 at approximately 7:20 pm, South Bend Police received a Shot Spotter activation in the 2000 Blk. of Lincoln Way West. Uniformed units quickly arrived on scene to find a four door vehicle crashed into a yard near the intersection of Lincoln Way West and O’Brien streets. Officers observed a male driver slumped over in the front seat suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. South Bend Fire and medics soon arrived and transported the victim to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased soon thereafter.

South Bend Police then notified the Saint Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit and we responded to the scene. We are actively investigating this case and are interviewing witnesses. During the course of the investigation tonight, we learned that the vehicle that crashed at Lincoln Way West and O’Brien streets had been left unoccupied and running to warm up in front of a house in the 2000 blk. of Lincoln Way West. The female who was using the vehicle which belongs to her boyfriend realized that the car was being stolen and fired numerous rounds at the car with a handgun as it fled westbound on Lincoln Way West.

The woman who fired the gunshots which we believe struck the victim has been interviewed at CMHU and arrested on a preliminary charge of Voluntary Manslaughter.  Formal charges are pending from the Prosecutor’s Office. The arrested party has been identified as:

REVLON HARRELL  F/B 27

The deceased has been identified as:

ANTHONY CRAIG LOGAN M/B 38

This is an on-going active investigation. We are asking anyone with information about this or any other homicide to contact us at 574-235-5009.

An autopsy has been tentatively schedule for Thursday morning at 9 a.m.

This woman deserves a award !
South Bend has turned in to a crime ridden getto . The police can’t do it all .
This is absurd that this woman was arrested protecting her property .
We need to keep a very close eye on this
And what the prosecutor does .
No charges should be filed .
As a citizen of St Joseph county I am outraged . This is why I would l would not live in South Bend and why I won’t go
there.
Give this woman your support ,
It’s called crime stoppers .
Good riddance one less thief .
Listen to a police scanner for one night if you can’t figure this out .

Our society as a whole has gotten soft on crime, siding with the criminals instead of the victims more often than not… and then wondering why we have so much crime!

Why is she being made out as a murderer. He deserved it. I know a lot of good people living in bad neighborhoods due to circumstances and they get tired of dealing with bs everyday. People try to take from you when you are doing the right thing and minding your own business. I pray she is set free but being a black woman, I doubt it.

Why? It’s a Democrat run city, and a black woman checks two boxes on the victimhood list. Her odds of getting off free are better because of it!

Google his name…he has been in the St Joe County Jail before.
Don’t know if her boyfriend will want his car back after it’s been all shot up.
Lincoln Way West is the ghetto. Never used to be.
My dad grew up 5 blocks away in the 1930s at Fremont & LWW.
The times sure have changed.
South Bend is becoming more like the south side of Chicago every day.
We need Mayor Pete back to put an end to this nonsense!

Mayor Pete is part of the problem we need a young Rudy Giuliani.

Agreed! Mayor Pete’s kid gloves and appeasement stance have only increased the amount of crime in South Bend. Eric Logan was not unarmed, O’Neil did the right thing, and Pete chucking the cop under the bus has only emboldened criminals.

But by all means South Bend, keep voting Democrat and electing soft on crime candidates! Eventually all the decent people will leave (if it hasn’t happened already) and then the criminals can prey on each other.

I, too, think she deserves a medal, but unfortunately, that’s not how this is going to play out.
1.-she was not inside the car, when he entered it, therefore she was not “in harms way” or in any specific danger
2. he was fleeing, yes with stolen property, but he was leaving the scene and she basically shot him in the back as he ran away.
3. does she have a permit for the gun? it was a handgun afterall.
4. Is the crime of car theft punishable by the death penalty?
I realize the dude was a real scumbag of a person (his prison and local county records speak for themselves) and I am sure there are many crimes he committed and got away with them, so she DID do our society a favor, I am just curious as to what cost to her.
I hope she gets an ankle monitor and her life is not disrupted too much.

Your #3 only matters if she was carrying it off property. A legally owned firearm at the home requires no permit.

Number 4 should be a resounding YES, and number 2 shouldn’t matter. He was in commission of a felony.

Until people stop being soft on crime, we are going to have more of it.
