The sirens for the Cook Nuclear Power Plant are being deactivated.
The system has been taken down so Homeland Security and the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department can switch over to a system that uses mobile devices to alert people to emergencies.
A tone and an alert message will replace the siren system. The new system will first be tested in early February.

Seems that keeping the siren and adding the cellphone alert would offer more safety.
