The American Electric Power Foundation is joining the effort to create a first-of-its-kind community center in South Bend.

The AEP Foundation has donated $100,000 to the United Way of St. Joseph County on behalf of I&M Power to help support the center on the city’s southeast side.

The United Way is one of several organizations that are joining together to create the Southeast Neighborhood Center at East Dubail and Fellows Street.

The nearly $4 million center is designed to increase student success and is expected to open in the spring of 2022.
