Man charged in April 2020 shooting sentenced to 26 years

An Elkhart man accused of a non-fatal shooting last April has learned his fate.

Julian Sophal Roeun, 18, was sentenced to 26 years Thursday after pleading guilty to Robbery Resulting in Serious Injury, a Level 2 Felony.

As part of his plea agreement, a charge of Attempted Murder, a Level 1 Felony, was dropped.

The Elkhart Truth reports Roeun was arrested in June in connection with the April 25 shooting on Oriental Avenue.

His sentence includes 16 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections, four years in a community corrections program and six years suspended and served on probation.
