South Bend man facing murder charge in woman’s shooting death

A South Bend man is set for arraignment on Thursday, April 15, on murder and eight other counts in connection with the shooting death of Lateisha Burnett back on April 1.

Kenneth Darryl Dogan, 41, faces invasion of privacy, battery, recklessness and attempted murder charges, as well.

Burnett was found with gunshot wounds inside a home in the 1200block of West Dunham Street.

Dogan was previously charged in connection with the case, but not charged with Burnett’s death, until now.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office released the following information:

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges in connection with a St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit homicide investigation.

Kenneth Darryl Dogan, 41 of South Bend, was charged in a nine count
information in the April 1, 2021 shooting death of Lateisha Burnett (1200 block of W.
Dunham, South Bend).

Kenneth Darryl Dogan is charged with:
Count I: Invasion of Privacy a Class A Misdemeanor
Count II: Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon a Level 5 Felony
Count III: Burglary a Level 1 Felony
Count IV: Criminal Recklessness a Level 5 Felony
Count V: Attempted Murder a Level 1 Felony
Count VI: Attempted Murder a Level 1 Felony
Count VII: Voluntary Manslaughter a Level 2 Felony
Count VIII: Felony Murder a Felony
Count IX: Murder a Felony

Probable cause was found and an arrest warrant ordered issued. He was ordered held
without bond and remains in the custody of the St. Joseph County Jail. Kenneth Dogan’s
arraignment is scheduled for April 15th, at 1:00 p.m. (Traffic & Misdemeanor
Courtroom, 1855 Courthouse, 112 S. Lafayette Blvd, South Bend, IN).

Kenneth Dogan was previously charged in connection with this CMHU investigation, but
not in Ms. Burnett’s death (cause number 71D03-2104-F5-000071). That cause number
was dismissed, and the two counts in that case (Invasion of Privacy, a Class A
Misdemeanor and Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, a Level 5 Felony) were re-filed
today in the attached charges.

The sentencing range for Murder is 45 to 65 years. The sentencing range for a Level 1
Felony is 20 to 40 years. The sentencing range for a Level 2 Felony is 10 to 30 years. The
sentencing range for a Level 5 Felony is 1 to 6 years. Finally, the sentencing range for a
Class A Misdemeanor is up to 1 year.
