Man hospitalized after shooting at police in Kendallville

A man is now in the hospital after shooting at police in Kendallville.

A multi-county police chase ended with a shootout on Wednesday.

Fort Wayne Police said they tried to pull over a car for reckless driving. Justin Weikel at first stopped, but then drove away.

He led police through northwest Allen, DeKalb and Noble County, and police had to use stop sticks to try an end the chase. It didn’t end for another 40 minutes outside of Johnson Mobile Home Park.

Weikel began shooting at police, and police officers from multiple agencies shot back.

Weikel was taken to a hospital in Fort Wayne.

WANE-TV said no officers or people who lived in the mobile home park were hurt.

Weikel had a warrant out for his arrest for meth related charges.
