Big project takes over part of North Main Street in Elkhart

(Jon Zimney/95.3 MNC)

A big construction project is underway in Elkhart on North Main Street.

Elkhart Public Works and Utilities says the section of North Main between Crawford and Simonton Streets is closed through mid-August while crews install a water main.

It’s a $1.5 million project replacing a 100 year-old water main that had to be moved to allow the county to replace the Christiana Creek Bridge.

You should detour using Beardsley, Cassopolis, and Simonton.

If there are delays in the project, the stretch of busy roadway could be closed until the end of the year.
