Child hospitalized after Elkhart shooting

Police in Elkhart are investigating a shooting late this morning that left a child being rushed to the hospital.

According to a release from Elkhart Police the shooting happened in the 1300 block of Wildflower. The call initially came into police as an accidental discharge.

On scene officials found a 5 year old with a gunshot wound to his chest, and he was rushed to Memorial Hospital with what was described as a life-threatening injury.

None of the parties involved have been identified and police say they are still investigating.
