Police and other vehicles damaged in Monday chase and crash that impacts South Bend traffic

(ABC57)

Much of the day Monday saw a traffic snarl at the busy intersection of Lincolnway West and Ironwood, thanks to a crash at the end of a police chase.

Mishawaka Police say a wanted suspect was spotted around 10:45 a.m. on East Douglas Road. The suspect fled the scene and damaged three police vehicles before hitting two other vehicles at a McDonalds.

He drove over stop sticks on Logan and ultimately crashed into the wall in the westboud lanes of Lincolnway West near the Ironwood intersection.

The suspect was taken into custody and the road was shutdown for several hours.
