Michigan changing requirements for unemployment benefits

Beginning May 30, The State of Michigan will require claimants to actively seek work and report at least one work search activity per week in order to claim benefits.

The move comes as the state’s economy continues to strengthen, reinstating a requirement that was suspended in March of 2020 due to the pandemic.

There are COVID-specific exemptions that can be applied for with Michigan Works.

For more information contact 800-285-WORKS (9675) or go online to Michigan Works.

For more information on work search requirements, visit the UIA website at Michigan.gov/uia.
